Since 2017, MIX has been present with its switches inside Open Hub Med (OHM), a carrier-neutral data center located in Carini, in the province of Palermo, within the former Italtel “Marisa Bellisario” technology hub.
Today, this data center is the closest European infrastructure to the African continent and serves as a bridge between European networks and those coming from Asia, thanks to numerous submarine cables, with more currently under development.
The hub is rapidly expanding, hosting numerous local and national ISPs that leverage the presence of Content Providers to deliver content closer to end users compared to nodes in Milan and Rome. Due to its strategic location, just a few kilometers from the Sicilian coast, OHM is a secure landing point for connectivity from submarine cables crossing the Mediterranean.
